Your Radio Shack Crystal-Controlled Pocket Weatheradio is designed to receive National Weather Service broadcasts. These broadcasts provide information about weather conditions and forecasts 24 hours a day. Your radio receives these transmissions from up to 40 miles away - perfect for hunters, boaters, and golfers. The radio offers these features:

Crystal-Controlled Circuit - provides precise, drift-free reception.

Lightweight, Compact Design - lets you carry the radio with you anywhere.

BATTERY INSTALLATION

You need a 9-volt battery to power your Weatheradio. We recommend an alkaline battery, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-553. Follow these steps to install the battery.

1.Remove the battery compartment cover by pressing down on the cover and sliding it in the direction of the arrow.

2.Snap the 9-volt battery onto the battery connector and place it in the compartment.

3.Replace the compartment cover.

Caution: Remove the battery if you do not plan to use your Weatheradio for a week or more. Weak or dead batteries can leak chemicals that might damage the radio.

Follow these steps to operate the radio.

1.Extend the telescoping antenna to its full length. Do not try to bend or swivel the antenna.

2.Turn VOLUME clockwise until it clicks to turn on the radio.

3.Set FREQUENCY to the position that results in the cleanest reception (A, B, or C).

4.Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level.

Note: If the signal is broken or noisy, move the radio around to find the location that provides the clearest reception. If reception is still not clear, try placing the radio near an outside wall or window.

5.To turn off the radio, turn VOLUME counterclockwise until it clicks.

Notes: If you are unable to receive the weather station signal, contact the local National Weather Service office to verify that the station is on the air.

Severe cold reduces your radio's sensitivity and the battery's

power. If you use the radio in a cold place, keep it inside your pocket.

The Radio Shack Weatheradio is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the radio so you can enjoy it for years.

Keep the radio dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Some liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits.

Use and store the radio only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic circuits, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts.

Handle the radio gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit boards and can cause the radio to work improperly.

Keep the radio away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts.

Wipe the radio with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the radio.

Use only a fresh battery of the required size and type. Always remove an old or weak battery. It can leak chemicals that destroy electronic circuits.

Modifying or tampering with the radio's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate the radio's warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate the radio. If your radio is not operating as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance.
