2Insert the tabs of ADF support into the holes of the ADF one side at a time.

2Unpack the drum unit assembly. Remove the protective part.

Rock it from side to side several times to distribute the toner evenly inside the assembly.

Push the drum unit assembly into the DCP (until it snaps into place).

3 LoadTray Paper in the Paper

1Pull the paper tray completely out of the DCP.

2While pressing the paper guide release lever, slide the adjusters to fit the paper size. Check that the guides are firmly in the slots on the tray.

5 Close the front cover of the DCP.

For Legal size paper, press the universal guide release button and pull out the rear of the paper tray.

3Fan the stack of paper well to avoid paper jams and misfeeds.

4Put paper in the paper tray.

Check that the paper is flat in the tray and below the maximum paper mark.

4 ReleaseLock the Scanner

1Push the lever up to unlock the scanner. (The gray scanner lock lever is located at the back left under side of the document cover.)

5Put the paper tray firmly back in the DCP and unfold the Support flap before you use the DCP.

5 Install the Power Cord

Do not connect the Parallel or USB cable yet.

1Make sure that the power switch is off. Connect the AC power cord to the DCP.

2Plug the AC power cord into an AC outlet. Turn the power switch on.

If Check Scan Lock appears on the LCD, immediately release the scanner lock and press Stop/Exit.

6Selecting Your Country (Not Language)

Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark only. You must set your country so that the DCP works correctly. (This function is not available on UK, Asia and Oceania machine.)

1Check that the power is turned on by plugging in the power cord and turn the power switch on.

7 Selecting Your Language

You can change LCD Language. (This function is not available on UK, Asia and Oceania machine.)

1 Press the Menu key.

2 Press the key.

3 Press the key.

4Press or to select your language, and then press the Set key.

5 Press the Stop/Exit key.

1 Disconnect the DCP from the power socket and from your computer, if you have already connected an interface cable.

2Turn on your computer.

(For Windows?? 2000 Professional/XP, you must be logged on as the administrator.)

3Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. If the model name screen appears, select the DCP. If the language screen appears, select your language.

4The CD-ROM main menu will appear. Click Install MFL-Pro Suite.

If this window does not appear, use Windows?? Explorer to run the setup.exe program from the root directory of the Brother CD-ROM.

If you see the following screen, click OK to install the Windows?? updates. After the updates are installed, your PC may restart. Then the installation will automatically continue.

If the installation does not continue automatically, please open the main menu again by ejecting then reinserting the CD-ROM disc or double-click the setup.exe program from the root directory, and continue from Step 4to install the MFL-Pro Suite.

5After reading and accepting the ScanSoft?? PaperPort?? 9.0SE License Agreement, click

Yes.

6The installation of PaperPort?? 9.0SE will automatically start and is followed by the installation of MFL-Pro Suite.

If an error message appears during the installation process, you can repair and reinstall the software. From the CD menu, select Repair MFL-Pro Suite and follow the instructions on the screen.

7When the Brother MFL-Pro Suite Software License Agreement window appears, read the agreement, then click Yes if you agree to its terms.

8Select Local Connection, and then click

Next.

The installation will continue.

If you want to install the PS driver, select Custom Install and then follow the on- screen instructions. When the Select Components screen appears, check PS Printer Driver, and then continue following the on-screen instructions.

If the installation is unsuccessful, try installing again using the Repair MFL-Pro Suite option from the main menu. Select Repair MFL-Pro and follow the instructions on the screen.

The MFL-Pro Suite, Printer driver and Scanner driver have been installed and the installation is now complete.

Make sure that you followed the instructions in 1 to 8 on pages 8 - 9.

Before installation, if you are using Personal Firewall software, disable it. Once you are sure that you can print, re-start your Personal Firewall software.

1Make sure that the NC-9100h (Network Print/Fax Server) is installed into the DCP. (See ???Optional accessories??? in Chapter 8 of the User's Guide.)

2Connect the network cable to the DCP, and then connect it to a free port on your hub.

3 Plug in the power cord and turn on the DCP.

5Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. If the model name screen appears, select the DCP. If the language screen appears, select your language.

6The CD-ROM main menu will appear. Click Install MFL-Pro Suite.

If this window does not appear, use Windows?? Explorer to run the setup.exe program from the root directory of the Brother CD-ROM.

If you see the following screen, click OK to install the Windows?? updates. After the updates are installed your PC may restart. Then the installation will automatically continue.

9When the Brother MFL-Pro Suite Software License Agreement window appears, read the agreement, then click Yes if you agree to its terms.

0Select Network Connection, and then click

Next.

If the DCP is not yet configured for use on your network, the Configure IP Address window will appear. Enter the IP address information appropriate to your network by following the on-screen instructions.

CWhen the Brother on-line Registration screen is displayed, make your selection and follow the on-screen instructions.

DWhen the following screen appears, click Finish and wait as the PC restarts Windows and continues the installation.

The MFL-Pro Suite, Network Printer driver and Network Scanner driver have been installed and the installation is now complete.

Network Scanning is not supported in

Windows NT??.

2 Turn on your Macintosh??.

3Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.

4Double-click the Start Here OS 8.6-9.2 icon to install the printer and scanner drivers. If the language screen appears, select your language.

5 Click MFL-Pro Suite to install.

6Follow the on-screen instructions, and restart your Macintosh??.

7Connect the USB interface cable to your Macintosh??, and then connect it to the DCP.

DO NOT connect the DCP to a USB port on a keyboard or a non powered USB hub.

8 Plug in the power cord and turn on the DCP.

9 From the Apple?? menu, open the Chooser.

0Click the Brother Laser icon you installed. On the right side of the Chooser, select the printer to which you want to print.

Close the Chooser.

The MFL-Pro Suite, Printer driver and Scanner driver have been installed.

ControlCenter2.0 is not supported in

Mac OS?? 8.6 to 9.2.

ATo install Presto!?? PageManager??, click the

Presto! PageManager icon and follow the on-screen instructions.

You can easily scan, share and organize photos and documents using Presto!?? PageManager??.

Presto!?? PageManager?? has been installed and the installation is now complete.

1Disconnect the DCP from the power socket and from the Macintosh??, if you have already connected an interface cable.

2 Turn on your Macintosh??.

3Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.

4Double-click the Start Here OSX icon to install the printer driver, Scanner driver and Remote Setup program. If the language screen appears, select your language.

5 Click MFL-Pro Suite to install.

6Follow the on-screen instructions, and restart your Macintosh??.

7After the DeviceSelector window appears,

connect the USB interface cable to your Macintosh?? and then to the machine.

The DeviceSelector window will not appear if the USB interface cable has been connected before restarting your Macintosh?? or if you are overwriting a previously installed version of the Brother Software. If you encounter this problem continue with the installation skipping step 10 and then see the Software User's Guide Chapter 7 for details on selecting what machine the ControlCenter2.0 will connect with.

8Connect the USB interface cable to your Macintosh??, and then connect it to the DCP.

DO NOT connect the DCP to a USB port on a keyboard or a non powered USB hub.

9 Plug in the power cord and turn on the DCP.

Select Applications from the Go menu.

Open the Utilities folder.

Open the Print Center icon.

Click Add.

Select USB.

Setting Up the Machine

FSelect DCP-XXXX (XXXX is your model name), and then click Add.

GSelect Quit Printer Setup Utility from the Printer Setup Utility menu.

You can easily scan, share and organize photos and documents using Presto!?? PageManager??.

1Make sure that the NC-9100h (Network Print/Fax Server) is installed into the DCP. (See ???Optional accessories??? in Chapter 8 of the User's Guide.)

2Disconnect the DCP from the power socket and from the Macintosh??, if you have already connected an interface cable.

3 Turn on your Macintosh??.

4Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.

5Double-click the Start Here OS 8.6-9.2 icon to install the printer and scanner drivers. If the language screen appears, select your language.

Click MFL-Pro Suite to install.

Follow the on-screen instructions, and restart your Macintosh??.

Connect the network interface cable to the DCP, and then connect it to a free port on your hub.

Plug in the power cord and turn on the DCP.

0 Open the Chooser from the Apple menu.

AClick the Brother Laser (AT) icon, and then select BRN_xxxxxx_P1.

Close the Chooser.

xxxxxx are the last six digits of the Ethernet address.

7Follow the on-screen instructions, and restart your Macintosh??.

8After the DeviceSelector window appears,

connect the network interface cable to your Macintosh?? and then to the machine.

The DeviceSelector window will not appear if you have also connected a USB interface cable to the machine before restarting your Macintosh?? or if you are overwriting a previously installed version of the Brother Software. If you encounter this problem continue with skipping steps 11 through 13 and then see the Software User's Guide Chapter 7 for details on selecting what machine the ControlCenter2.0 will connect with.

5Double-click the Start Here OSX icon to install the printer driver and Remote Setup program. If the language screen appears, select your language.

6 Click MFL-Pro Suite to install.

9Connect the network interface cable to the DCP, and then connect it to a free port on your hub.

0 Plug in the power cord and turn on the DCP.

A Select Network and then click OK.

B Click Browse.

CSelect your model name, and then click OK. Then click OK again to close the

DeviceSelector.

D Select Applications from the Go menu.

E Open the Utilities folder.

F Open the Print Center icon.

G Click Add.

Installing the BRAdmin Professional

Configuration Utility (Windows?? Users Only)

The BRAdmin Professional utility is designed to manage your Brother network connected devices such as network-ready Multifunction devices and/or network-ready printers in a Local Area Network (LAN) environment.

BRAdmin Professional can also be used to manage devices from other manufacturers whose products support SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol).

1Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. The opening screen will appear automatically.

Follow the on-screen instructions.

2Click the Install Optional Applications icon on the main menu screen.

3Click BRAdmin Professional and follow the on-screen instructions.

The default password for the print server is ???access???. You can use BRAdmin Professional or a web browser to change this password.

Start BRAdmin Professional, and select

TCP/IP.

Select Search Active Devices from the Devices menu.

BRAdmin will search for new devices automatically.

Double-click the new device.

Enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask and

Gateway, and then click the OK button.

The address information will be saved to the printer.
