Please read this carefully before operation and use of your device.

1.Read these instructions carefully. Keep these instructions for future reference.

2.Heed all warnings and follow all instructions.

3.Do not expose to water or moisture.

4.Clean only with a dry cloth.

5.This device should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the rating la- bel. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your video dealer or local power company. For devices intended to operate from battery power or other sources, refer to the operating instructions.

6.Do not overload wall outlets or extension cords as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock. Overloaded AC outlets, extension cords, frayed power cords, damaged or cracked wire insulation, and broken plugs are dangerous. They may result in a shock or fire hazard.

POWERING YOUR STEREO

AC Operation

???Plug the power cord into an AC 120V wall outlet.

???Locate the Main Power switch on the rear of the unit and set it to the ON position.

???Press the Volume/Power knob on the front of the unit to turn your stereo on or off.

WARNING:

???Do not connect the power plug to a power outlet other than that which is indicated here and on the label as this may result in the risk of fire or electric shock.

???Do not handle the power plug with wet hands. Doing so may cause electric shock.

Adjusting the Volume

???Turn the Volume/Power knob to adjust the volume level.



AM/FM RADIO (TUNER) MODE

Select TUNER mode to listen to AM or FM radio broadcasts. Press FUNCTION to select TUNER mode.

AM/FM Antenna

???Your stereo comes equipped with an internal AM antenna. Large appliances or other devices that create an electrical field may interfere with AM reception; for best reception, please try to locate the stereo away from such devices.

???Your stereo comes equipped with an external FM wire antenna. Adjust the position and loca- tion of the FM antenna for best reception.

FM Stereo / Mono Reception

When the tuner is locked in to a stereo broadcast, the LCD will display ???STEREO???. If you are hav- ing difficulty locking in to the broadcast, switch to MONO reception by pressing FM ST./MONO on the remote.

Selecting the Band (AM or FM)

???Press BAND/FOLDER to toggle between the AM or FM band.

Tuning to a Station Frequency

???To adjust the tuning frequency up, press . To auto-scan to the next highest available sta- tion frequency, press and hold .

???To adjust the tuning frequency down, press . To auto-scan to the next lowest available station frequency, press and hold .

???To tune to a preset station, press PRESET UP or PRESET DOWN (see the Presetting Sta- tion Frequencies section for more information on preset stations).

Presetting Station Frequencies

Your stereo can store up to 20 FM preset stations and up to 10 AM preset stations. While the stereo is in TUNER MODE:

1.Tune to the station frequency you would like to save as a preset (e.g., ???89.2???).

2.Press PROG on the remote control. The LCD will display ???MEMORY??? and the Preset Sta- tion Number will start flashing.

3.Press PRESET UP or PRESET DOWN to select the Preset Station Number to save (e.g.,

Preset Station Number ???01???).

4.Press PROG again to save the preset (e.g., Preset ???01??? is now set to station frequency ???89.2???).

USB (UDISK) MODE

Select UDISK mode to play digital MP3/WMA audio files from a USB drive. For more information about MP3 or WMA digital audio files, please visit our website at www. cobyusa.com. Press FUNCTION to select UDISK mode.

About USB Drives

USB drives are storage devices that have a USB interface. Some examples of USB drives are:

???USB Thumb drives (flash memory)

???USB Micro Drives (mini hard drive)

???USB Card Reader with flash memory installed (e.g., Compact Flash, SD/MMC, Memory Stick, etc.)

Although you may connect other MP3 players through the USB port for playback, we recommend that you use the provided Auxiliary Line-In jack for such devices to take advantage of your MP3 play- er???s display and controls (please see the AUXILIARY (AUX) MODE section for more information).

Playing MP3/WMA Files from a USB Drive

Connecting a USB Drive

1.Transfer the MP3/WMA files onto the USB drive you wish to connect (you may need to use a computer to do this).

2.Connect the USB drive to the stereo???s USB port using the appropriate USB cable (not included). A USB cable was likely provided with your USB drive.

3.Press FUNCTION to select UDISK mode. The LCD will display ???READING??? while the stereo scans for MP3/WMA files on the USB drive. The more files that are on the drive, the longer it will take to complete the scan. When playback is stopped, the LCD will display the total number of folders and MP3/WMA files on the USB drive.

MP3/WMA Playback Controls

???Press to start playback. Press again to pause playback or press to stop playback.

Press again to resume playback.

???To select the next track, press . To fast forward through the current track, press and hold .

???To select the previous track, press . To reverse through a track, press and hold .

???If the USB drive contains multiple folders, press BAND/FOLDER to change folders.

If the ID3 Display feature has been turned on in the Menu Options (and the MP3 file being played con- tains ID3 information), then the file name, song title, and artist name will be displayed on the LCD.

USB (UDISK) MODE

MP3/WMA Play Modes and Options

???INTRO Mode

Press INTRO to toggle Intro Mode on or off. Intro mode will play the first 10 seconds of each track.

???RANDOM Mode

???Press RANDOM to toggle Random Mode on or off. Random mode will play your tracks in a random, shuffled order.

???REPEAT Modes

While playback is stopped, press REPEAT to toggle through the following Random modes:

Repeat One (repeats one track)

Repeat All (repeats all tracks on the drive)

Repeat Folder (repeats all tracks in the current folder)

???REPEAT A-B Mode

Repeat A-B allows you to specify a segment of a track to play as a repeating loop.

1.During playback, press REPEAT twice to designate the beginning of the loop (Point A). The LCD will display .

2.Press REPEAT again to designate the end of the loop (Point B). The LCD will display

and the track segment A to B will play in a repeating loop.

3.Press REPEAT again to exit the repeating loop and continue normal playback.

Programming a Custom Sequence of Tracks

Your stereo can memorize a programmed sequence of up to 20 tracks. To create a program se- quence:

1.Press to ensure that playback is stopped.

2.Press PROG. The LCD will display ???PROG??? and the Folder Number will start blinking.

3.Press or to select the folder that contains the track that you want to program and then press PROG. The Track Number will start blinking.

4.Press or to select the track and press PROG to store the track.

???Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to continue programming tracks in the sequence, or

???Press to start the program sequence playback.

SD/MMC MODE

Select SD/MMC mode to play digital MP3/WMA audio files from an SD/MMC card. For more information about MP3 or WMA digital audio files, please see the About MP3/WMA Files section. Press FUNCTION to select SD/MMC mode.

Playing MP3/WMA Files from SD/MMC Cards

1.Transfer the MP3/WMA files onto the SD/MMC card you wish to connect (you may need to use a computer and a SD/MMC card reader to do this).

2.Insert the SD/MMC card into the stereo???s SD/MMC card slot.

3.Press FUNCTION to select SD/MMC mode. The LCD will display ???READING??? while the stereo scans for MP3/WMA files on the card. The more files that are on the card, the longer it will take to complete the scan. When playback is stopped, the LCD will display the total number of folders and MP3/WMA files on the card.

MP3/WMA Playback Controls

???Press to start playback. Press again to pause playback or press to stop playback. Press again to resume playback.

???To select the next track, press. To fast forward through the current track, press and hold.

???To select the previous track, press . To reverse through a track, press and hold .

???If the card contains multiple folders, press BAND/FOLDER to change folders.

SD/MMC MODE

AUXILIARY (AUX) MODE

Select AUX mode to listen to external audio devices connected through the 3.5mm Auxil- iary Stereo Line-In jack. Press FUNCTION to select AUX mode.

1.Use a 3.5mm Male-to-Male Stereo cable to connect any external audio device with a 3.5mm Headphone or Line-Out jack to the AUX IN jack on the rear panel of the stereo.

2.Start playback on the external audio device. Adjust the volume on the audio device (do not set the volume too high to avoid distortion). You may also adjust the volume on the CX-266.

3.To control playback function, use the controls provided by the external audio device.

MENU OPTIONS (SETUP)

Access the Menu Options to set your stereo???s internal options. Press MENU on the re- mote control to toggle through the Clock, Timer, Equalizer, Bass, and ID3 options.

Clock

Set the system clock time.

1.Press MENU until the LCD displays ???CLOCK??? and then press ENTER. The 12/24HR option will start blinking.

2.Press or to toggle the 12/24HR setting and then press ENTER. The Hour option will start blinking.

3.Press or to set the Hour option and then press ENTER. The Minutes option will start blinking.

4.Press or to set the Minutes option and then press ENTER.

Timer (Alarm)

Set a time for the stereo to turn on and off automatically.

1.Press MENU until the LCD displays ???TIMER??? and then press ENTER. The LCD will display

TIMER ON.

2.Press MENU to change between the TIMER ON or TIMER OFF options and then press

ENTER. The Hour option will start blinking.

2.Press or to set the Hour option and then press ENTER. The Minutes option will start blinking.

3.Press or to set the Minutes option and then press ENTER.

After the TIMER ON time has been set, you can press TIMER on the remote control to toggle the

Timer Alarm on or off. The LCD will display ???TIMER??? when the timer alarm is on.

When the Timer Alarm is triggered, you may press SNOOZE on the remote to delay the alarm for another 5 minutes.

Sleep

The Sleep function allows you to go to sleep to music and have the stereo turn itself off automati- cally after a set amount of time.

1.Press SLEEP on the remote control to set the amount of time before the unit turns off. Each successive press of SLEEP will increase the Sleep duration 10 minutes (up to a maximum of 90 minutes).

???When Sleep Mode is activated, the LCD will display ???SLEEP???

???When Sleep Mode is activated, you may press SLEEP once to view the remaining

Sleep Time.

???To cancel Sleep Mode, press SLEEP until the LCD displays ???SLEEP 00???.

MENU OPTIONS (SETUP)

EQ (Equalizer)

Set the digital preset equalizer.

1.Press EQ on the remote control to cycle through the equalizer settings: FLAT, ROCK, JAZZ, CLASSIC, or POP.

Bass

Turn the bass enhancement feature on or off.

1.Press BASS on the remote control to toggle the Bass setting on or off.

ID3

Turn the ID3 display feature on or off. When this is set to ON, the stereo will display any MP3 or

WMA ID3 song information that is available.

1.Press MENU until the LCD displays ???ID3??? and then press ENTER. The LCD will display ID3

ON.

2.Press MENU to toggle between the ID3 ON or ID3 OFF and then press ENTER.

MENU OPTIONS (SETUP)

Firmware upgrades may be available from time to time on our website at www.cobyusa.com.

Please check our site periodically for firmware upgrades.

To upgrade your stereo???s firmware:

1.Download the latest firmware from our website at www.cobyusa.com

2.Save the new firmware to the root directory of a USB drive or an SD/MMC card.

3.Connect the USB drive or SD/MMC card to the stereo and set it to the corresponding mode (UDISK or SD/MMC).

4.The stereo will read the USB drive or card and the LCD will display ???UPDATE??? for 5 seconds. During this time, press ENTER to start the firmware upgrade, or do nothing to cancel the update.

5.If you have chosen to update the firmware, the LCD will display ???UPDATE???. DO NOT

INTERRUPT THE UPDATE PROCESS AS THIS MAY RENDER YOUR STEREO INOPER- ABLE.

There is no sound.

???Ensure that the Main Power Switch on the rear panel is physically set to the ON position.

???Ensure that the AC adapter cord is securely connected to the proper wall outlet.

???Ensure that the volume is not too low and that MUTE has not been activated.

The sound is distorted.

???Ensure that the volume is not too high.

???Ensure that the MP3/WMA file is not corrupt. Try playing the file on a computer or try down- loading the file again.

The remote control is not working.

???Ensure that the battery is not dead.

???Avoid using the remote in direct sunlight or other strong light.

???Avoid placing any obstacles between the remote and the remote sensor.
